Camden Riversharks News Release
CAMDEN-The Riversharks scored four times in the 6th inning and Brett Laxton earned his fourth straight win, as the Riversharks downed the Bridgeport Bluefish 7-3 on Wednesday night, before 3,302 fans at Campbell's Field.
Camden opened the scoring in the 3rd when Richie Barrett scored on a wild pitch by Bridgeport starter, Mike Porzio. The wild pitch was thrown while Porzio was attempting to intentionally walk first baseman Ryan Jones. Porzio lasted just four innings, in his second start for the Bluefish. He allowed two runs on three hits, walked five and did not figure in the decision.
Meanwhile, Brett Laxton was cruising through four innings, needing just ten pitches to retire the side in the 3rd and 4th combined. Trailing 2-0, Bridgeport got on the board on an RBI double by Brady Williams. Then in the 6th, they grabbed a 3-2 lead on sacrifice flies by Jamie Gann and Wil Pennyfeather. Gann went 2-3 on the night.
Relievers Phil Rosengren (0-2) and Dan Krines coughed up the lead in the 6th, as the Riversharks put their first five men of the inning on board. Troy Cameron (2-3) and Vic Gutierrez (3-4) chipped in with RBI singles, followed by a 2-run single by Travis Anderson, that put Camden in front 6-3. The catcher was making his first start since breaking his wrist on May 30th.
Brett Laxton improved to 8-2, surrendering three runs on seven hits in 7.1 innings of work.
Wayne Gomes recorded five outs to notch his 16th save, tying him for third most in the Atlantic League.
The Riversharks look for the series sweep when the teams meet again tomorrow morning at 11am. Southpaw Kevin Dougherty will be on the hill. He will be opposed by Bridgeport's Josh Miller.
