Nashua Pride win five consecutive games against Somerset Patriots

(Nashua, NH) Mike Torres crossed the plate on a Kevin Haverbusch bases loaded fielder's choice in the bottom of the sixth inning Wednesday night to snap a 5-5 tie as the Nashua Pride made it five consecutive wins over the Somerset Patriots with a 9-5 triumph Wednesday night at Historic Holman Stadium.

Torres had a pair of hits and three RBI for Nashua (14-5, 57-32). Other Pride offensive standouts were Luis Rodriguez who went four-for-five with one RBI and Joe Kilburg who belted a three-run homer in the third inning, his eighth of the season. Glenn Murray added three hits and scored a pair of runs for Nashua.

Pride starter Brian Looney (5-4) posted the win working six innings, allowing seven hits and five runs. After Jason Blanton worked a scoreless seventh for the Pride, Kevin McGlinchy recorded his second save of the year by hurling a pair of shutout innings to nail it down for the Atlantic League North Division leaders.

Nick Bierbrodt (0-1), the third of five pitchers for Somerset (7-12, 48-40) suffered the loss as he allowed the go-ahead Pride run in the sixth.

Patrick Boran belted a two-run homer for the Patriots in the second inning, his third of the year. Jeff Nettles belted a solo shot in the sixth, his 12th.

The Pride and the Patriots will complete their three-game series Thursday evening at 6:35 in Nashua. It's scheduled to be a battle of right-handers with Jeremy Griffiths (0-0, 11.51) on the mound for the Pride and Greg Modica (4-5, 4.28) scheduled to pitch for Somerset.
