Four players suspended from Sunday's brawl

The Central Hockey League handed out suspensions on Monday night in response to events in Sunday's game between the Corpus Christi Rayz and Laredo Bucks. In the second period of the Rayz dramatic, 5-4 come from behind win, a melee ensued at the American Bank Center and six players were ejected. Four players were suspended by the CHL on Monday - two from each team. Rayz forward Adam Powell received a three game suspension and Jason Baird received a one game suspension for Corpus Christi. Bucks defenseman Kris Mallette was given a five-game suspension and forward Neil Clark received a two-game suspension for Laredo. Additionally, Corpus Christi forward Blair Stayzer, the Rayz and the Bucks were all fined undisclosed amounts.

Sunday's memorable game was highlighted by a second period brawl which featured 134 combined penalty minutes and six ejections all at the 11:42 mark of the middle frame. The melee included a fight in the Rayz penalty box, on the Rayz bench, a goaltender fight and players who jumped off the bench to join the fray. All told the Rayz set a franchise-record for penalty minutes in a game with 105 total minutes in the game. After the game-changing brawl, the Rayz rallied for three goals in the final seven minutes of regulation to force overtime and eventually beat the Bucks in the seventh round of a shootout to jump to 22-15-5 on the season.

Powell will miss all three games this week in a three-game set with Rio Grande Valley and Baird will miss Thursday's opener and be eligible to return on Friday Night's home game for the Rayz. Powell, Baird and Clark will have served their suspensions by the next Corpus Christi - Laredo meeting on February 11th in Laredo. Mallette's eligibility will begin the next game - February 14th when the Rayz again travel to Laredo.
