
Four pitchers combine to shutout Wings 7-0

HARLINGEN - A parade of four San Angelo pitchers combined to shutout the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings on four hits Friday night as the Colts posted a 7-0 victory over RGV at Harlingen Field.
San Angelo improved to 13-9 overall with the win, while the WhiteWings fell to 8-14. Omar Lopez (1-4) came on in relief of starter Alajando Rodriguez in the second and pitched four scoreless innings to get the victory. Jacoby Marshall and Kip Pridgeon each pitched two scoreless innings to finish the ballgame for San Angelo.
Rio Grande Valley starter Pete Henyan (0-3) was again a tough-luck loser, going six innings and allowing four earned runs on six hits. He struck out six and walked five. Beau Cumbie gave up three runs (two earned) in one inning of relief, while Brian Gore fire two scoreless frames for the WhiteWings.
At the plate, leadoff batter Carlos Mendoza continued his hot start as a Wing with two hits, while Abigail Sandoval and Sam McLain had the other hits for RGV. San Angelo scored three runs in the second inning, one in the fifth and three more in the seventh. Scott Krause and Jason Crosland hit back-to-back solo homers for the Colts in the seventh inning. In all, San Angelo tallied nine hits, with two each from Krause, Bryce Morrison and Kevin Bass. The Colts left 11 runners on base, while the WhiteWings left seven. Rio Grande Valley also committed three errors in the game.
The two teams will hook up again Saturday night at 7:05 at Harlingen Field in the second game of the three game series. Newcomer Brandon Bowe (0-0) is expected to be promoted to the active roster to start tomorrow's game. He will oppose Mark Goodman (2-2, 4.74 ERA) of the Colts.
