Bradenton Marauders News Release
LAKELAND, Fla. - Rodolfo Nolasco drove in three runs Wednesday night in support of starter Joelvis del Rosario, who helped lead the Marauders to a 4-0 win over the Lakeland Flying Tigers at Publix Field.
Nolasco went 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBI, which matched his season-high, while Del Rosario (3-1) went a career-high six scoreless innings on the mound, striking out seven and walking none.
For the first time in their last eight games, the Marauders (21-26) scored first. Nolasco drew a one-out walk from Lakeland (22-25) starter Garrett Burhenn (2-1) in the first inning, and after taking second base on an errant pickoff throw, scored on a two-out throwing error by second baseman Carlos Mendoza.
In the third, Sergio Campana led off with a single, and Nolasco followed up by launching a 1-0 pitch from Burhenn on top of the grass berm in left field for his third home run of the season, giving Bradenton a 3-0 lead.
Burhenn would finish after a respectable five innings, allowing three runs (two earned) and striking out six, but receiving no run support.
On the mound, Del Rosario allowed just two baserunners into scoring position during his six innings. The right-hander benefitted from two double plays, including in the third inning, when Nolasco chased down a fly ball to deep right field by Manuel Sequera and quickly returned the throw toward the infield, where shortstop Deivis Nadal's relay throw to first base doubled off Esney Chacon, who had broken for second base on the pitch and failed to anticipate Nolasco's catch.
Nolasco added an RBI-single in the seventh inning off lefty reliever Cristhian Tortosa to cap his three-RBI night, and Marauders relievers Cristian Charle, Dante Mendoza, and Nick Mears each pitched one scoreless inning to preserve the shutout victory, Bradenton's third of the season.
The four Marauders pitchers combined to hold Lakeland 0-for-4 with runners in scoring position, and the Flying Tigers never placed a runner on third base in the game.
The series continues Thursday with first pitch scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at Publix Field. LHP Anthony Solometo (0-0, 0.00 ERA) will start for the Marauders against RHP Nick Davila (2-4, 2.87 ERA) for Lakeland.
