Four Junior Blue Jackets Players To Compete For U.S.
COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio Junior Blue Jackets will have four players competing for the United States Under-17 Select and Under-18 Select Teams in international competition next month, General Manager Don Harkins announced today.
Current Junior Blue Jackets center Tim Hall (Sewickley, Pa.) is one of three Ohio players who will compete for the U.S. Under-18 Select Team. Mark Goggin (Glen Ellyn, Ill.), the 25th overall pick in the 2006 United States Hockey League Futures Draft, and Jordy Murray (Fairbault, Minn.), the 86th overall pick in the 2007 USHL Entry Draft, were also selected to play for the team.
Hall recorded 17-14-31 in 56 games with the Junior Blue Jackets last season. The 21-man Under-18 Team will be coached by Roger Grillo and compete in the 2007 Under-18 Memorial of Ivan Hlinka from August 14-18 in Piestany, Slovakia and Hodonin, Czech Republic.
Cody Murphy (Highwood, Ill.), the 134th overall pick in the 2007 USHL Entry Draft, will play for the U.S. Under-17 Select Team. Murphy is one of 21 players, chosen from the 2007 USA Hockey Select 16 Player Development Camp. The team will be coached by Jon Cooper and compete in the 2007 Under-17 Five Nations Tournament from August 20-24 in Strakonice, Tabor and Pribram, Czech Republic.
"We are very excited for these players," said Harkins. "This is a great opportunity for them to compete for their country, as well as gain international experience."
