Four Former Navigators Drafted

The 2014 MLB First-Year Player Draft was held last week and 4 former North Shore Navigators were drafted. Josh Michalec, Calvin Graves, Jamil Moquette, and Keenan Kish were all selected by MLB teams.

Josh Michalec, from Baylor University, appeared in 12 games for the Navigators in the summer of 2012 as a key member of the bullpen. He was a big part of the bullpen at Baylor as well. In 2013, Michalec recorded an ERA of 2.64 in 22 appearances and held opponents to a .213 batting average. He followed that up with an impressive senior campaign with a 3.15 ERA in 30 appearances. Michalec was drafted in the 21st round by the Colorado Rockies.

Calvin Graves, from Franklin Pierce University, played in the outfield for North Shore last summer. He it .255 with 19 runs scored and 13 stolen bases. This year for Franklin Pierce he hit .373 with 24 RBI, 37 runs scored and 25 stolen bases. At home, he hit a blistering .475. Graves was selected in the 27th round by the Chicago Cubs.

Jamil Moquette, from UMass Boston, was acquired in a trade last season for the Navigators. He hit .381 in his time in Lynn, MA. This season for the Beacons, he hit .333 with 38 runs scored, 4 home runs, 29 RBI, 19 stolen bases and an on base percentage of .497. Moquette went to the Baltimore Orioles in 32nd round.

Kennan Kish, from the University of Florida, had a brief stint with the Navigators in the summer of 2012. Kish missed this season with the Gators due to Tommy John Surgery. In his previous three years at Florida, he had posted ERAs of 0.63, 1.98, and 3.38. Kish was drafted by the Cincinnati Reds in the 34th round.
