Mobile BayBears News Release

Mobile, Ala.--Four members of the Mobile BayBears were among the players chosen today to represent the Western Division in the Southern League All-Star Game in Jacksonville on Tuesday, July 8th.

BayBears outfielder Jon Knott, catcher Humberto Quintero, and pitchers Cory Stewart and Rusty Tucker were selected in a vote of league managers, broadcasters, and writers.

Knott leads the league in home runs with 20, two short of the BayBears all-time, single-season record. He is batting .256 and has driven in 56 runs, tied for third most in the league. Knott is a product of Mississippi State University and was signed as a non-drafted free agent prior to the 2002 season.

Quintero is batting .282 with one home run and 21 RBI while ranking among the top defensive catchers in the league. Quintero was acquired in a trade last season with the Chicago White Sox and is in his second year with the BayBears.

Stewart is 7-4 with a 3.38 earned run average in 15 starts. He leads the league in strikeouts and is tied for fourth in victories. Stewart was signed as a free agent prior to last season after pitching in the independent Texas-Louisiana League. He previously spent two years in the Cincinnati Reds organization.

Tucker leads the league in saves with 22 to go along with a 1-2 record and a 2.93 ERA. The Padres drafted him in 2001 out of the University of Maine.

The starting lineup for the All-Star Game will be announced on Tuesday, July 1.
