Mobile BayBears News Release
Zebulon, NC â The Mobile BayBears dropped their second straight game to Carolina Friday night, falling to the Mudcats 7-1. BayBears starter, Roger Deago didn't get out of the third inning as he allowed three runs on five hits while walking four batters.
Carolina scored three times in the third using a triple, double, single and two walks in the process. After a leadoff walk to Drew Niles, Josh Wilson tripled to left to drive in the games first run. Following a strikeout, Wilson scored on a double by Jesus Medrano. Will Smith then drove in Medrano with a single. After walking Chip Ambres, Deago was relieved by Chris Rojas.
Deago began the season 3-0 in April with a 2.60 ERA. Since the left-hander has gone 2-5 with an ERA of 5.93.
"Roger has got to stop falling behind 1-0 and 2-0," BayBears pitching coach Gary Lance said. "No pitcher can succeed if he keeps falling behind. For him to succeed he needs to get his first or second pitch over for a strike."
Rojas gave up three runs of his own. The Mudcats touched the right-hander for one tally in the fourth as Adrian Gonzalez drove in Josh Wilson from second with a two-out single up the middle. In the fifth Rojas walked Medrano and Chip Ambres who both scored on a double by Dennis Anderson.
The Mudcats scored their final run in the sixth on an infield groundout by Smith off of reliever Alan Webb.
The BayBears got on the board in the ninth. Danny Bravo doubled and scored on a single by Ben Johnson. The RBI was the first for Johnson since May 9th. Johnson came off of the disabled list Thursday.
With the loss the BayBears are now 0-5 in Carolina on the season.
The BayBears and Mudcats will play the third game of their series Saturday night at 6:15. RHP Chris Oxspring (4-3; 3.52) will start for Mobile against Carolina's LHP Ryan Snare (5-2; 3.66).
