Carolina Courage News Release

Morrisville, NC (July, 9, 2003) - Carolina Courage forward Danielle Fotopoulos underwent surgery to repair the torn anterior cruciate ligament in her left knee on Tuesday in Baton Rouge, LA. The leading goal scorer in Courage franchise history suffered a complete tear of her ACL in a match against the San Jose CyberRays on June 25th. Fotopoulos hopes to begin running in 3-4 months.

The loss of Fotopoulos for the season compounds the injury woes of the Courage. Carolina played its first four games without 2002 Goalkeeper of the Year Kristin Luckenbill, and Norwegian midfielder Hege Riise suffered a season-ending ACL tear in the second game of the season. Despite these setbacks, the Courage has responded by going 5-2-3 in its last 10 matches to move into playoff contention. The Courage will take on the New York Power this Saturday, July 12th at 7:00 pm at SAS Stadium in Cary, NC.
