Forward Madison Notches 1-1 Draw with UW Madison in 4th Annual Battle for Madison

Forward Madison managed to notch a 1-1 draw against the UW Madison Badgers Men's Soccer team on Saturday, April 23rd, 2022 in the 4th Annual Battle for Madison. The friendly took place at Breese Stevens Field at 7pm CT. The first half began with Forward Madison controlling possession. Neither team was able to get any shots on goal until the 10th minute mark when UW Madison logged a shot far wide of Forward Madison goalkeeper Parker Smith. At the 14th minute mark, Forward Madison recorded their first corner which resulted in an Alvin Jones cross getting ricocheted out of bounds for a Badgers goal kick. Forward Madison nearly took the lead in the 20th minute, after a header from Osualdo Ramirez was barely tipped up and over the net by the UW Madison goalkeeper.

The rest of the first half went back and forth until Parker Smith came up with a couple of huge saves in the 31st minute to keep the score knotted up at zero. In the 42nd minute, UW Madison's Jack Finnegan broke free into space and rocketed a shot past Parker Smith to give the Badgers a 1-0 lead. The half concluded with the Badgers leading 1-0.

The second half began with coach Matt Glaeser pumping some energy into the squad by subbing out everyone except for Osualdo Ramirez, Justin Sukow, and Cyrus Rad. At the 50th minute mark, Abdou Mbacke Thiam managed to sneak through the Badgers defense to score an unassisted equalizing goal. Parker Smith came up with another huge save in the 54th minute, catching a laser of a shot sent into the top right corner of the net. The second half went on slowly until the 73rd minute where coach Matt Glaeser subbed in Mele Temguia, for his first appearance of the season. Forward Madison nearly took the lead in the 86th minute when Abdou Mbacke Thiam got past a UW Madison defender and shot a ball just wide of the Badger goalkeeper. The final minutes of the game ticked away as the 4th Annual Battle for Madison ended in a draw.

The Flamingos next match will be against Central Valley Fuego FC at Breese Stevens Field on Saturday, April 30th at 5:00 pm CT.
