Forward Madison FC News Release

MADISON, WI: It was a humid night for a Forward Madison FC match as fans filled the Breese Stevens Field stands in Madison to watch the third-place 'Mingos take the field against ninth-place South Georgia Tormenta FC. It was a double-header tonight for fans, with the Forward Madison match taking place at 6pm and the USWNT-Netherlands match starting immediately after at 8pm. Fans were invited to come onto the field and stay for the watch party to cheer on Team USA.

The match started with electric energy. Seventeen seconds after the first whistle, FMFC midfielder Andrew Wheeler-Omiunu hit a long ball to forward Christian Chaney, who took a touch off his chest and slid the ball effortlessly past the goalkeeper. The goal put the 'Mingos up 1-0 and tied the record for the fastest goal in club history. Forward Madison fans barely had time to celebrate because shortly after in the 8th minute, South Georgia Tormenta FC equalized with a Matheus Cassini goal. The rest of the half slowed down, with both teams building possession and creating opportunities; however, none were dangerous enough to find the back of the net. The half ended in a 1-1 draw and both sides left the pitch to cool down in the locker rooms.

At the beginning of the second half, South Georgia Tormenta held the momentum. In the 48th minute and 55th minute, striker Kazaiah Sterling scored back-to-back goals to put his squad on top 3-1. Forward Madison FC made a few substitutions to beat the heat and bring new energy onto the pitch, but South Georgia continued to put pressure on FMFC's defensive line. In the 68th minute, South Georgia capitalized again, as striker Jackson Khoury put one in the back of the net to go up 4-1. Although Forward Madison created a few opportunities, including long shots from midfielders Mauro Cichero and Eric Conerty, FMFC was unable to come back. The match ended in a 4-1 South Georgia Tormenta FC win.

"We got punished a couple times tonight," FMFC Head Coach Matt Glaeser said. "I think we were feeling a little too confident going into this one. The early goal gave us a boost, but then we didn't have enough energy the rest of the match."

"We weren't as sharp tonight," FMFC striker Christian Chaney said. "Sometimes coming off of a break where you don't play any league games in over a week, it can help you or hurt you. In this case, the guys, including myself, were just not on it today. We need to be better on Saturday."

"We need to sleep on it and then wake up to a new day," FMFC's Aiden Mesias said. "We need to focus on Greenville coming up this Saturday."

Next up, Forward Madison FC will remain at home for another match this Saturday, July 29th, at 7pm CT against Greenville Triumph SC.
