Forward Madison FC News Release
FULL TIME 0-1 Lansing comes away with a hard fought road win during what could be the first chapter of a new rivalry thanks to a string of fouls committed by both teams. Forward Madison dominated possession throughout the half with Lansing struggling to stay in front of Don Smart, Paulo Jr, and even a forward-pushing Carl Schneider, who took advantage of midfielder J.C. Banks covering his flank, though he also conceded a yellow card much to the chagrin of the Wisconsin native. Ryan Coulter returned to the lineup for this match and has given another solid performance with help from captain Connor Tobin and holding-midfielder and stand-in center back Eric Leonard. In another continuing trend, a spot shower has returned to Breese Stevens Field to soak the fans and cool the players, with no of thunder disrupting play, unlike the U.S. Open Cup match in Saint Louis. In the second half, Lansing grew into the match quickly, with Forward Madison making mistakes on the ball and conceding possession to Nick Moon, who capitalized on the chance and slotted the lone goal home past Ryan Coulter's near post. The Flamingos squandered opportunities in the second half early and often, with Grant Stonemen conceding a silly yellow card in the 51st minute. With Eric Leonard in the back line, Coach Daryl Shore elected to bring on Jiro Barriga Toyama and Brandon Eaton instead of pulling out a more defensive player. By the end of the match, Lansing goalie Stefan Cleveland, on loan from the Chicago Fire of MLS, was forced more into action, though he was never troubled in any serious way. As the clock wound down, Josiel Nunez was handed a straight red card for dissent and ended what was another hard night for the Flamingos at home.
