Forward Madison Earns Clean Sheet, Road Point in Draw with Greenville
August 17, 2019 - United Soccer League One (USL1)
Forward Madison FC News Release
Forward Madison FC claimed a well-earned point on the road Saturday, holding Greenville Triumph SC to a 0-0 draw. The Triumph had won three games in a row before Saturday, and FMFC can now look forward to three straight home games at Breese Stevens Field.
The Flamingos thought they had taken the lead in the 19th minute when center back Wyatt Omsberg tucked home a cross from J.C. Banks' left-sided free kick. As the celebrations ensued, however, the referee pulled it back for an offside call.
FMFC's Brian Sylvestre, who took home his second clean sheet of the season, made his biggest stop in the 29th minute, diving at full extension to push away a long-range shot from Aaron Walker.
Forward Madison nearly converted another chance in the 73rd minute, when substitute Jiro Barriga Toyama turned a shot across his body toward the far post of Greenville's goal. Triumph goalkeeper Dallas Jaye palmed the ball away, which fell to the head of J.C. Banks, who smashed his effort off the crossbar.
With its draw, Forward Madison retains its spot in sixth place in USL League One. The Flamingos sit only two points out of the playoff positions.
Forward Madison will return to USL League One action next Saturday as it hosts the Richmond Kickers for the second time in three weeks. The Flamingos now have just seven games left to play in their inaugural regular season.
