LUBBOCK COTTON KINGS
GAME NIGHT PREVIEW
Fort Worth Brahmas (10-37-4) @ Lubbock Cotton Kings (21-22-6) DATE: 2/19/03 TIME: 7:05 pm LOCATION: Lubbock Municipal Coliseum
DOES FORT WORTH EVER CROSS YOUR MIND?
The Cotton Kings open up a four game week tonight hosting the Fort Worth Brahmas. The Brahmas are making their only trip to the Hub City this season with a CHL worst 10-37-4 (23.5%) record, but the Brahmas have won 2 of their last three including an 8-2 win over Lubbock Friday night. This begins an important week for the âKings who look to climb back into playoff position. Lubbock is two standing points behind Corpus Christi, with a game-in-hand over the Ice Rays. New Mexico is also in the hunt remaining one-point behind Lubbock. Both Lubbock and Corpus Christi have a four game week this week, with Lubbock playing 3 of their 4 against teams at the bottom of their division and Corpus Christi playing 3 of their 4 against division leaders. While Lubbock hosts Fort Worth tonight, the Ice Rays host the Austin Ice Bats. New Mexico is off tonight, so Lubbock and New Mexico will have both played 50 games after tonight and each will have one game-in-hand over Corpus Christi.
THE SERIES
The Lubbock Cotton Kings lead the all time series 5-3-2, with Fort Worth drawing an all-time record of 5-4-1 against the Cotton Kings. This is the second meeting of the season between these two squads and the 11th meeting all-time. Chad Woollard of Fort Worth leads the Brahmas and the season series in scoring with 4 points (3g,1a). The all-time series scoring leader is former Brahma Ross Harris, who has 5 goals and 6 assists for 11 points in 6 series contests. Lubbock's all-time series leaders are Brandon Carper (1g,7a) and Kylie Reeves (4g,4a) who each have 8 points in six games. THE LAST MEETING
The Ft. Worth Brahmas used a four goal explosion in the first period of play to race out to an early lead and didn't let up the rest of the way as they pounded the Lubbock Cotton Kings by a 8-2 score Friday night at the Ft. Worth Convention Center. Sean Hughes, Joe Van Volsen, Lee Jacobson, and Adam Davis all found the back of the net in the game's opening twenty minutes as the Brahmas jumped out to a commanding 4-1 lead over the âKings. Staked to the commanding advantage, the Brahmas continued to dominate in the second and third periods of play. Left wing Chad Woollard picked up his second hat trick of the season by scoring once in the second period and twice in the third, and rookie forward T.J. Warkus chipped in with his third goal of the season. Brahmas goaltender Jason Fricker was credited with the win, as he kept Lubbock at bay all game long, allowing only two inconsequential goals by Lubbock forwards Paul Fioroni and David Ambler on the 22 shots sent his way. Cotton Kings rookie netminder Jure Penko took the loss, giving up the first 5 Brahmas' goals before being replaced by Mike Brusseau nine seconds into the second period of play.
ROSTER CHANGES
Lubbock has been without defenseman Craig Binns (doubtful) the past three games and James Sheehan (questionable) the past two games. The Fort Worth Brahmas list a healthy roster.
