October 24, 2020 - United Soccer League One (USL1)
Fort Lauderdale CF News Release
Fort Lauderdale CF fell 1-0 on the road in its second matchup of the regular season against Union Omaha to close out its inaugural USL League One campaign. The game at Werner Park kicked off at 8 p.m. ET and aired live on ESPN+.
Fort Lauderdale CF lined up with a new face in its starting XI; as Daniel Gagliardi started in goal to make his debut for the team.
After a highly contested first 45 minutes with few opportunities in attack, both sides entered the second half pushing to find the opening goal. Fort Lauderdale's best chance came in the 72nd minute of play; midfielder Eduardo Sosa received a pass in space down the left wing from 16-year-old Inter Miami CF Academy product Edison Azcona before cutting in and unleashing a long-range right-footed shot that bounced off the crossbar.
Despite both team's pressure on the offensive end, it seemed as if the match was going to end with a goalless draw until the hosts opened the scoring in the 91st minute. Forward Evan Conway found a loose ball inside the box before unleashing a first-time left-footed volley that found its way to the back of the net to grant a late 1-0 win to Union Omaha.
It was Fort Lauderdale's final regular season match of its inaugural USL League One season. Overall, the team compiled a record of four wins, three draws and nine losses.
