Former Woodchuck Ruf Gets the Call

(Wausau, WI) - Another former Woodchuck has gotten his call to the majors. 2007 Woodchuck alum Darin Ruf has been summoned directly from Double-A Reading and will join the 40-man roster of the Philadelphia Phillies for tonight's game. In his one season with the "˜Chucks, Ruf hit .347 with 8 home runs and 37 RBI, and was named a league all-star.

Ruf has been a force to be reckoned with at the Double-A level this season. He led all of Minor League Baseball with 38 home runs and was named Eastern League MVP and Rookie of the Year after leading the league in home runs, RBI (104), total bases (303), on-base percentage (.408), slugging percentage (.620) and OPS (1.028), while placing second in batting average (.317). Ruf's 38 home runs broke Reading's single-season home run record of 37, set by Phillies current first baseman Ryan Howard.

Since being drafted in the 20th round of the 2009 MLB draft Ruf has steadily climbed the ranks of the Phillies organization. In his 458 minor league games, he owns a .305 batting average with 67 home runs, 283 RBI and a .520 slugging percentage.
