Former Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings relief pitcherJuan Cedeno, who was signed recently by the New York Yankees, has been invited to and is working out at the Yankees major league camp in Tampa, Fla.

Cedeno, 28, and three other pitchers, are vying for a spot as a left-handed bullpen hurler. The Yankees are looking for a second lefty behind their veteran lefthanded pitcher Boon Logan.

Cedeno has been throwing live batting practice as the Yankees recently began spring drills at teinbrenner Field.

Cedeno played with the WhiteWings in the 2011 season, after sitting out during 2010. He had a 3-1 record and a 6.49 ERA for the Wings in 17 outings. In 43 innings, he struck out 65 batters and walked 10.

The native of Higuey, Dominican Republic, was first signed by the Boston Red Sox at the age of 17. In 2002, his first year in the United States, he played in the Gulf League. He next played with Augusta, Ga., in the Sally League and later played with Wichita, a farm club of the Kansas City Royals, in the Texas League for three years.

Overall, he has played AA ball for four years, A+ for three years and A ball two years. He also played in 2009 for the Doosan Bears in the Korean Baseball Organization.
