Wilmington Blue Rocks News Release

Wilmington, DE - The Wilmington Blue Rocks proudly announce that the late John McAdams - long-time public address voice of Daniel S. Frawley Stadium - has been chosen for induction to The Philadelphia Big 5 Hall of Fame later this month. McAdams served as the familiar voice at Blue Rocks home games for the first 12-plus years of the team's existence in Wilmington, dating back to 1993.

Known to friends and fans alike as Johnny Mac, McAdams earned wide recognition beginning in 1981 as the public address announcer for over two decades at The Palestra in Philadelphia -home base for the Big 5 schools of the city, which include Penn, Temple, LaSalle, St. Joe's, and Villanova. In addition to calling Penn and Big 5 basketball action at the historic arena, McAdams worked several years as the press box announcer at Philadelphia Eagles home games and served as an official scorer for the National League at Veterans Stadium during Phillies games.

In his time with Wilmington, McAdams provided PA for over 800 Blue Rocks games spanning 13 seasons. In all, he worked in excess of 1,000 events held at Frawley Stadium, including various Delaware Stadium Corporation affairs such as the annual Delaware State Championship Game and the Governor's Cup Tournament. McAdams passed away suddenly on June 16, 2005 at the age of 64.

The special induction ceremonies for McAdams and the rest of the honoree class of 2007 are to be held on Thursday, January 25 at the Palestra.
