
Former U.G.A. Standout Frontrunner for Head Coaching Job

Chattanooga, TN 5/18/05âThe record holder for the most career points scored at the University of Georgia is the acknowledged frontrunner for the head coaching position for the American Basketball Associations' Chattanooga Steamers. Litterial Green, of Fayetteville, Georgia, has been in talks with the team's President and General Manager, John Tyner, and is expected sign a one-year deal soon.
Green is a native of Pascagoula, Mississippi, and attended the University of Georgia from 1988-1992. He holds records in five categories dating from his time at the school, including career points (2,111), career assists (466), field goal attempts (1,611), free throws in a single game (16), and free throw attempts (744). Upon his graduation from the university, Green was drafted in the second round of the N.B.A. draft by the Chicago Bulls. Subsequently, Green played for other N.B.A. teams, including the Orlando Magic, Detroit Pistons, and the Cleveland Cavaliers. After his retirement as a player, Green moved into coaching, and was awarded Coach of the Year honors after leading the World Basketball Associations' Southern Crescent Lightning to its first championship. Additionally, Green is the founder of the "Practice with the Pro's Basketball Camp," and is the Director of the Junior SBA, and organization dedicated to conducting youth basketball camps and clinics.
Talks with Green concerning the coaching job have taken place over the past several days. John Tyner, President and General Manager of the Steamers stated that, "Litterial is the ideal choice for our inaugural season, and we hope to be able to announce his hiring soon. At present, we've just been ironing out the details."
The A.B.A. Chattanooga Steamers is the newest team in the A.B.A's Blue (East Division).
