Meet the Chattanooga Steamers

August 20, 2005 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Chattanooga Steamers News Release

Chattanooga, TN. The Chattanooga Steamers professional basketball team is owned by Ralph Underhill, former coach of the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga Moccasins and former GM/Coach of the ABA Kentucky Pro-Cats. The team was founded in November 2004 after Coach Underhill named John Tyner, CEO of Tyner Entertainment & Athlete Management, President of the team.

The Steamers will play at Macclellan Gymnasium, a 4,100 seat arena on the campus of the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga. Macclellan Gymnasium has a forty-year history with the University and the City of Chattanooga. In 1979, UT-C won the Division II National Championship before a maximum capacity crowd while playing in the arena.

General Manager and Head Coach Litterial Green will lead the Steamers in its inaugural season. Green is a graduate of the University of Georgia, where he set five school records, including the record for the most points scored in a collegiate career (1,611). Green went on to an NBA career and later coached the WBA's Southern Crescent Lightening to its first league championship while drawing Coach of the Year Honors for himself.

The Steamers prides itself on its involvement with the community. The Steamers have entered into an agreement whereby local children who are members of the East Brainerd Recreation Center will receive free tickets to home games and most halftime shows will feature local youth athletic groups displaying their talents for the fans.
