Kearney, NE. - The Tri-City Storm has announced that former Storm Captain Kenny Brooks has been named Assistant Coach for the 2018-2019 season. Brooks skated for the Storm from 2009-2012, before playing four years collegiately at Penn State University. He also served as team Captain for the 2011-2012 season, and scored more than thirty goals in his USHL career.

Kenny Brooks, 26, of Las Vegas, NV, returns to Kearney following a 170 game playing career with the Storm that spanned three seasons. During the 2011-2012 season, he became the 13th player in team history to record a hat trick during a regular season game. Brooks netted three goals in Tri-City's 8-3 defeat of rival Lincoln at the Viaero Center on February 18th, 2012. In total, Brooks scored 34 goals and recorded 56 assists during his career with the Storm. After a three year career with Tri-City, Brooks enrolled at Penn State University and suited up for the Nittany Lions during their first season as an NCAA DI program. He skated in 117 games for Penn State during his four year career. Brooks scored 14 goals and provided 32 assists for the Nittany Lions offense from 2012 to 2016. Following his time at Penn State, Brooks played professionally during the 2016-2017 season with the Atlanta Gladiators and Colorado Eagles of the ECHL. He scored his first professional goal on January 1st, 2017 in Colorado's 6-4 loss to the Alaska Aces. Brooks netted 6 goals and registered 6 assists for the Eagles during the 2016-2017 season. Most recently, Brooks has spent time as a youth hockey instructor in his hometown of Las Vegas, NV.

I've learned a lot about teaching through the youth program in Las Vegas. I get to work with players at a basic level, see what works for them and what doesn't, and see their growth over time.
