Former RiverKings Help Hershey's AHL Title Run

June 15, 2009 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Mississippi RiverKings News Release

(Southaven, MS) --- Former Memphis RiverKing Keith Aucoin was on the ice with the Hershey Bears when they won the American Hockey League's Calder Cup late last week. Hershey won a league record tenth AHL championship with a 4-1 victory over the Manitoba Moose in game six of the finals played at Winnipeg, Manitoba last Friday night.

Aucoin's empty net goal with 20 seconds remaining sealed the championship for the Bears.

Aucoin had a "cup of coffee" with the Memphis RiverKings in the 2004-05 season, playing five games, scoring four goals and adding five assists for nine points in those five appearances. He scored points in all five games, including a four-point night (two goals, two assists) on October 26th at home against Topeka.

Two of Aucoin's goals that season came on the power play and one was a game-winner. He would go on to play the remainder of the 2004-05 season with Lowell in the AHL.

In addition to his extensive time in the AHL, Aucoin has played 53 games in the National Hockey League with Carolina and played twelve games this season with the Washington Capitals, scoring two goals, six points and had four penalty minutes.

Keith started his pro career with the B.C. Icemen in the UHL in the 2001-02 season and played one game in the ECHL with the Florida Everblades. From there, Aucoin started his AHL career with Lowell, Providence, and Cincinnati, before starting the 2004-2005 campaign in Memphis.

This season, the Bears' assistant captain played 70 regular season games with Hershey, scoring 21 goals and 96 points. In 21 playoff appearances, the Waltham, Massachusetts native scored five goals for 23 points and was penalized for 16 minutes in time served. The 23 points put him in a tie for second among AHL playoff scoring leaders.

Aucoin is not the only member of the Hershey championship team that has a RiverKings' tie. Greg Amadio also was on the Bears' playoff roster, collecting one assist in nine playoff tilts. He was not in the lineup for the final game of the series.

Amadio was on the Memphis RiverKings' roster for 14 playoff games in the 2003 Ray Miron President's Cup championship run, earning no points but collecting 24 penalty minutes.

This year's Mississippi RiverKings are getting ready to defend their 2009 CHL Northeast Division championship. For season ticket and corporate partnership opportunities, contact the RiverKings at 662-342-1755 today!
