Former Pitt standout Brown expected to attend Xplosion camp

PITTSBURGH, October 29, 2006 - Former University of Pittsburgh standout Jaron Bown is expected to be among those in attendance when the Pittsburgh Xplosion resume its Free Agent Training Camp on Monday, October 30 at the Club 4 Life in Monroeville, Pa. The camp is tentatively slated to run through Thursday, November 2 from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM. He will be among over a dozen players competing for an opportunity to be invited to the club's Veteran's Training Camp which begins on November 14.

Brown, a 6-4 guard from Lexington Kentucky , was a key component to the Panther's transformation into a national powerhouse. During Brown's four years on the court, Pitt's record was 107-30. He is mostly noted for his intangibles, and being known as one of the smartest players in school history. Under Brown's leadership, Pitt advanced to the Big East Championship game all four years, winning the championship in 2002-2003 for the first time in school history. Pitt also advanced to the Sweet 16 each of Brown's final three seasons.

His career totals of 1258 points, 651 rebounds, 295 assists, and 192 steals all rank high on the school's all time list. The 192 steals ranks him 7th on the all time list. His 11.7 points, 5.4 rebounds, 2.8 assists, and 1.8 steals earned him All Big East 2nd Team honors for the 2003-2004 season. He also was awarded the 2003-2004 Big East Sportsmanship award, and 2001-2002 Big East Honorable Mention.

The Pittsburgh Xplosion begin their inaugural season in the Continental Basketball Association on December 1 at Albany . The team's first home game will be held on December 6 at the Mellon Arena.
