Former Pioneer Cody Eppley Called up to the Major Leagues

The Elmira Pioneers are proud to announce that former Pioneers pitcher Cody Eppley has been called up by the Texas Rangers from the team's "AAA" Round Rock Express. Eppley made his Major League debut on Saturday, April 23, against the Kansas City Royals. He pitched two scoreless innings, earning a "hold" in the Rangers 3-1 win. The Virginia Commonwealth alumni allowed two hits, walked none and had a strikeout.

Cody Eppley was a member of the 2006 collegiate league Pioneers. He went 5-3, with a 2.28 ERA. He Had 51 strikeouts in 59 innings and led the Pioneers in wins, strikeouts, innings pitched and complete games. Drafted by the Texas Rangers in the 43rd round of the 2008 draft, Eppley cruised through the Rangers minor league system. In his three years in minor league ball he had a 9-7 record with a 2.39 ERA and 32 saves. He averaged better than a strikeout per inning, fanning 204 batters in just 173 innings pitched. Eppley was one of four Pioneers selected to play in the NYCBL 2006 All Star Game and was named to the All NYCBL second team at the conclusion of the 2006 season.

The Pioneers Opening Weekend starts on June 9 versus the Cooperstown Hawkeyes. The first Thirsty Thirsday of the year, all drinks are $1.00.
