ROANOKE, VA - The Roanoke Valley Vipers, member of the United Hockey League (UHL), announced today the hiring of Jim Wiley, who will take over the head coaching duties for the team immediately.

"We had a lot of candidates up for the position," said Vipers owner Ken Dixon, "but Jim was the best fit for our organization. We like the experience he brings to the table, and we feel like his background in scouting will really benefit our recruiting efforts."

Wiley comes to the Vipers with a tremendous background in hockey, including several years spent in the National Hockey League (NHL) with the San Jose Sharks organization in a variety of capacities ranging from director of hockey operations to pro scout to head coach in 1995-96. Wiley was named vice president and general manager of the Louisiana IceGators of the ECHL for the 2004-05 season. He carries experience coaching the Sharks' American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the Kentucky Thoroughblades, as well as coaching in the International Hockey League (IHL) and in the United States Hockey League (USHL).

"It is very exciting to have the chance to be a part of a new operation," said new Vipers Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Jim Wiley. "I am really appreciative of the opportunity given to me by the Dixons, and I will do my very best to step up the recruiting and put a championship team on the ice for the fans of the Roanoke Valley."

Wiley enjoyed a long tenure as a professional hockey player prior to his days coaching. His career included parts of four seasons in the NHL with the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Vancouver Canucks. Wiley also spent time in the AHL and Central Hockey League (CHL).

Vipers season and partial-season ticket packages are still on sale and start at just $118! Call the Vipers office at (540) 345-PUCK (7825) or visit the official site of the Vipers at www.valleyvipershockey.com for more information!
