
Former Mother McAuley Star Katie Schumacher Coming Home To Play for Thunder

OAKBROOK TERRACE, ILL., NOVEMBER 7, 2002_ The Chicago Thunder, a member of United States Professional Volleyball (USPV), announced the signing of former Mother McAuley (Chicago, Ill.) High School and Penn State University standout Katie Schumacher.
Schumacher was a three-time All-Big Ten Conference First Team selection at Penn State and was a member of the 1999 NCAA national championship team. Schumacher was also an honorable mention All-American in 1999.
At Mother McAuley, Schumacher, currently a volunteer assistant volleyball coach at the University of Illinois, helped lead the Mighty Macs to the 1994 and 1995 Illinois Class AA high school volleyball state championships.
The Thunder now boasts four Chicagoland-area products. Kelly Kennedy (Barrington High School), Denise Boylan (Benet Academy) and Nadia Edwards (Lincoln-Way High School) are also on the team.
The Thunder opens its 2003 season Friday, January 10, 2003 in Rochester, Minn. against defending USPV champion Minnesota in a rematch of last years USPV Championship Series.
Chicago opens the home portion of its season Sunday, January 12 against St. Louis at Saint Xavier Universitys Shannon Center. The Thunder will play all of its home matches this season at the Shannon Center.
