Chico Outlaws News Release

CHICO, CALIF - The Chico Outlaws are happy to announce that former Major League All-Star Jose Lima will pitch in Chico during the upcoming weekend series against the Long Beach Armada on Friday night at Nettleton Stadium.

Jose Lima has pitched all season for the Long Beach Armada in his attempt to make it back to the Major Leagues. Lima was an All-Star with the Detroit Tigers in 1999, and pitched in the Major Leagues for 13 consecutive seasons. The 36 year old right-hander started this season's All-Star game for the South Division, as he has posted an impressive 2.93 E.R.A. in over 80 innings worked this season.

Lima is known for branding his starts as "Lima Time", and was a big splash with the Los Angeles Dodges in 2004, when he earned a victory in the playoffs. He also has been known to sing the national anthem before games.

"We've missed Jose twice this year, " General Manager Curt Jacey said. "Now, we'll get our chance to see him, and it'll be a thrill for the home crowd, and for our players to face him. I don't know if we can get him to sing the national anthem, but at least we'll all get to see him pitch."

Friday night's first pitch will be at 7:05 p.m., as Long Beach comes to Chico for the second time this season. Tickets are available and can be purchased at the Outlaws downtown office (308 Salem Street), by telephone (530-345-3210), or on the internet (ChicoOutlaws.com).
