DENVER - The National Lacrosse League has announced that former Mammoth forward Dan Stroup is one of three members of the class of 2010 NLL Hall of Fame. After a playing career that ended with the 2009 season, Stroup was elected to the Hall of Fame in his first season of eligibility.

"Dan was a wily veteran who was always able to score key and clutch goals for us," said Mammoth President, General Manager and Head Coach Steve Govett.

Govett has fond memories of Stroup not only as a player, but as a childhood friend. "On the field, I used to love watching him do the 'Stroup-a-loop' where he would take the ball, do a little curl then shoot it," continued Govett. "It went in every time. He was one of the first players who began to dive across the crease as he shot and was very effective at it. Aside from being a great lacrosse player, he has always been one of my best friends and played the game with great passion."

Stroup came to Colorado in 2005 and stayed through 2006 championship season. In two seasons with the Mammoth, he racked up 53 goals, 22 assists and 119 loose balls. For his career, Stroup recorded 529 points while playing 13 seasons in the league (Baltimore, Toronto, Vancouver, Colorado, Edmonton and Portland), and is currently 12th on the NLL's all-time goal-scoring list with 294. He reached the 500-point plateau in 2008 while playing for the Edmonton Rush, and is currently an assistant coach for the Washington Stealth.

As a player, Stroup was known as a great teammate and a durable and dependable player as he was in the line-up for all but four games during his thirteen seasons. Stroup was no stranger to league championships, winning three titles in Toronto (1999, 2000 & 2002) and one in Colorado (2006).

"I always looked up to [Dan]," said former teammate and current Mammoth transition player Nick Carlson. "He was a tremendous pick-and-roll player on the field and in the dressing room, he was always laughing and fun to be around. He was an awesome 'team' guy. Dan was hard-working and this honor is very well deserved."

The next home game for the Mammoth is this Saturday, February 27 at 7pm at Pepsi Center. The game will be Wild West Night as the Mammoth again faces the Swarm. Tickets are on sale now.
