TITANS FALL TO BOSTON IN DOUBLE OT IN LONGEST GAME IN NATIONAL LACROSSE HISTORY

In the end it was history. Unfortunately for the Orlando Titans they came up on the short end of it as Sean Morris slammed home a goal at the 13:54 mark of the second overtime to give the Boston Blazers a thrilling 12-11 double overtime win over the Titans, in what became the longest game in National Lacrosse League history. It was a costly loss for the Titans (3-2), who missed a chance to move into first place in the Eastern Conference. Instead, Orlando slipped to third place, one-half game behind the Rochester Knighthawks (5-3) and just one-half game in front of the surging Blazers (4-4), who have won for the fourth time in their last six games.

MERRILL NEEDS ONE

Titans defenseman Pat Merrill needs to recover one more loose ball to reach the 500 mark in his career. Merrill, who is in his 8th season in the league, picked up 180 loose balls in three seasons with Toronto (2003-05) and 319 in his three-plus seasons with the Titans (2006-10)

SMITH NEW SINGLE SEASON LEADER IN PIM

With a five minute penalty assessed for fighting, Titans rugged defenseman Rory Smith moved his season total of penalty minutes to 64, breaking Pat Merrill's 2008 single season record of 61. Smith's total of 64 in just five regular season games is a bit skewed, as he picked up three 10-minute game-misconduct penalties in the season opener against Philadelphia.

TITANS HEAD COACH ED COMEAU

Whether he has been a head coach, general manager, or an assistant coach the name Ed Comeau has been synonymous with success for more than a decade in the National Lacrosse League. In 2010, Comeau is in his second season as head coach and general manager of the Titans organization and his 13th season of affiliation with the NLL. Comeau assumed the dual role of head coach and general manager of the Titans on June 30, 2008. In his first season with the team, Comeau captured an Eastern Division championship with a 10-6 record and then led the Titans to playoff victories over Rochester and Buffalo. The season concluded with a hard-fought 12-10 road loss in the Champion's Cup Final to highly-favored Calgary. For his efforts, Comeau received votes for Coach of the Year, but it was his shrewd personnel moves before and during the season that made the Titans a championship contender and resulted in Ed being named NLL General Manager of the Year.

PARK STATUS STILL IN QUESTION

Orlando Titans transition specialist Jarett Park sat out last week's loss to Boston with a shoulder injury. It marked just the second time in 53 regular season games that Park did not suit up for the Titans. Team medical personnel are waiting to determine whether Park's injury will require surgery. For now, it is being treated with rest and rehab. While Park has expressed confidence in returning this week against Toronto, he is being listed as questionable for the game.

SPREADING IT AROUND

For the 4th time in five games, the Titans have seen at least seven different players score goals for Orlando. Jordan Hall (3), Pat Maddalena (2) and Ryan Boyle (2) all had multi-goal games for Orlando, while Casey Powell, Mike McLellan, Matt Alrich and Chad Thompson all added one goal each. For the season, the Titans have had 11 different players acount for goals.

SERIES RECORD VS. ROCK

Saturday's game against the Toronto Rock will mark the sixth time the teams have squared off since the Titans entered the National Lacrosse League in 2007. Orlando holds a 3-2 series edge, but Toronto has won the last two games, including thrilling 15-14 decision over the New York Titans in 2009. The teams will play again this season in Orlando on Saturday, March 27.

EASTERN DIVISION TIGHT RACE

How tight packed is the Eastern Conference? Well here's a clue. Only 1.5 games separates first place Toronto (6-3) from fourth place Boston (4-4). In addition, should the Titans win on Saturday, they would jump into first place in the division race. Should Rochester also win, the Titans would be in a first -place tie, with both teams sporting a.667 winning percentage.
