Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release
KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (October 27, 2015) -- The Kannapolis Intimidators, Class A Affiliate of the Chicago White Sox, will have a pair of former players in this year's World Series between the New York Mets and Kansas City Royals. Both teams released their rosters for the Fall Classic on Tuesday, and 2011 Intimidators reliever Addison Reed is on the Mets pitching staff for the series along with Bartolo Colon, who had a 2009 rehabilitation assignment with Kannapolis.
Reed, 26, a third round pick of the White Sox in the June 2010 First-Year Player Draft, made his full season debut with the Intimidators in 2011 before speeding through the farm system to make his Major League debut that September. The former San Diego State standout pitched in four games for Kannapolis in 2011, posting a 1.13 ERA (1 ER/8.0 IP) and 11 strikeouts with the Intimidators. That season, he led all Minor League relievers in strikeouts.
After pitching for the White Sox in 2012 and 2013, Reed was traded to the Diamondbacks for the 2014 season, and Arizona dealt him to the Mets midway through the 2015 campaign.
Colon, 42, has been with the Mets since 2014. During his second stint with the White Sox in 2009, the right-handed pitcher made a rehab appearance with Kannapolis in a July 14 road game at Savannah, tossing 7.0 innings and allowing two runs on seven hits with eight strikeouts and a walk. The long-time Major League veteran has spent parts of 18 seasons in the big leagues, winning the American League Cy Young Award in 2005 with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.
