Saint John NB â Former Saint John Flames head coach Bob Francis (1993-95) was named the recipient of the Jack Adams Award as the National Hockey League's Coach of the Year at the 19th Annual NHL Awards presentation in Toronto last night.
The 42-year-old Francis led the Phoenix Coyotes of the NHL to a record of 40-27-9-6 for a total of 95 points in 82 games. In only his third season as the Coyotes head coach, he became the franchise's winningest coach in both wins and standings points. He led the Coyotes to their second best season in franchise history: 40 wins and 95 points. He also led the Coyotes to their best season since relocating to Phoenix and helped the Coyotes reach the 90-point plateau for the fourth consecutive season.
The Jack Adams Trophy is awarded annually by the National Hockey League Broadcasters' Association to the coach adjudged to have contributed the most to his team's success.
As the first head coach in Saint John Flames history, Francis compiled a record of 64 wins, 73 losses and 23 ties during the 1993-94 and 1994-95 seasons. Francis' tutelage also led the Flames to Calder Cup playoff appearances in both seasons.

The 2002-03 season marks the Saint John Flames tenth as a member of the AHL and also as the primary development organization of the NHL's Calgary Flames.
