Portland Pirates News Release
PORTLAND, ME - The Portland Pirates and corporate partner Oxford Networks announced today that Whitney Campbell of Yarmouth has been named the "Hockey Mom of the Year" for the 2001-02 season. She was chosen from a host of essays submitted on-line at portlandpirates.com by children 16 years old and younger. Whitney's ten-year-old son Tanner Johnson wrote the winning essay.
"Hockey parents make so many sacrifices so that their children can play the sport," said Brian Petrovek, Pirates President/CEO. "We and Oxford Networks wanted to find a way to recognize one of these parents because families are so important to both of our organizations."
"Oxford Networks is dedicated to community involvement so being a part of the "Hockey Mom of the Year" program was a perfect extension of that mission," said Sherri Vallee, Product Manager for Oxford Networks. "Knowing all the hard work and dedication required of parents who have children playing any sport, we wanted to find a way to recognize their efforts."
As the "Hockey Mom of the Year", Ms. Campbell will receive one year of free Internet access courtesy of Oxford Networks. She also receives two season tickets to the 2002-03 Pirates' season and a dinner for she and her family at DiMillo's floating restaurant. Additionally, she will be honored on ice at the Pirates' 2002-03 home opener, including being interviewed on the Pirates' Radio Network.
Oxford Networks provides the Pirates with web hosting service and technical support. For the last two seasons, the Pirates and Oxford Networks have teamed up to provide fans with live streaming video of Pirates' home games as well as Internet radio broadcasts of all Pirates' regular season and playoff games. As a further example of their high-tech products and services, Oxford also archives all on-line broadcasts, providing fans an opportunity to enjoy games they may have missed.
