Bakersfield Blitz News Release
BAKERSFIELD, CA - This week's Russell Athletic ESPN Arena Football Monday matchup features two teams, New Orleans (4-6) and Philadelphia (4-6), which are led by former arenafootball2 (af2) head coaches, Mike Neu and Brett Munsey. Neu and the VooDoo travel to Philadelphia to take on Owner Jon Bon Jovi's Soul squad in a game that will be broadcast live on Monday, May 21, at 5:30 p.m. PST on ESPN2 and ESPN360.com. The game will also provide a national showcase for a number of notable former af2 players on both sides.
One of the stars playing in the game will be former Blitz DS Alex Wallace (San Jose St., '01). Wallace is now a defensive back for the New Orleans VooDoo and he is one of eight af2 alumni on the VooDoo roster. Wallace led the af2 with 11 interceptions in 2006 and he was named the ADT Defensive Player of the Year.
Wallace has recorded 18 tackles and 1 interception for New Orleans this season after missing several weeks early in the season with an eye injury.
The Bakersfield Blitz (4-3) head to Everett, WA next weekend to take on Head Coach Cedric Walker and his Hawks (1-6). Walker was the Defensive Coordinator for the Blitz in 2006. The Blitz will be back home to "Paint the Town Red" on Saturday, June 9th to take on the defending ArenaCup Champions, the Spokane Shock. Anyone who arrives to Rabobank Arena wearing red will be able to purchase tickets at half-price. For more information, please call 661-377-2548 or visit www.BBLITZ.com.
