Dallas Desperados News Release

The Dallas Desperados today announce the signing of WR/DB Brian Hinton, OL/DL Doug Lytle, WR/DB Sirr Parker, WR/DB Will Pettis and WR/DB Mareno Philyaw.

Parker – a former Texas A&M running back/wide receiver – joins the Desperados after floating around the NFL and CFL the past three seasons. Parker closed his career in College Station by leading the Aggies to the 1998 Big 12 title. In helping A&M rally to defeat top ranked Kansas State in the championship game, Parker scored a touchdown and two-point conversion late in regulation to tie the score, then scored the winning touchdown on a 32-yard reception on third-and-17 in the second overtime. The following spring, he signed with the Carolina Panthers and spent the 1999 season on their practice squad before being waived July 25, 2000. He was claimed by the Cincinnati Bengals and spent the 2000 season on their practice squad before being moved to the active roster on Dec. 4. After being waived by the Bengals on May 18, 2001, he ventured north of the border to sign with the B.C. Lions of the CFL. He has been out of football since leaving the Lions.

Pettis – a product of Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls – was out of football for two years after leaving MSU before joining the Pensacola Barracudas of af2 last April as a wide receiver/defensive back. In his first indoor season, the Houston native finished second on the team with 55 catches for 791 yards and 14 touchdowns, first with nine interceptions for 47 yards, first with 34 pass break ups, first with eight missed field goal returns for 168 yards and a touchdown and third with 36.5 tackles, including two for losses.

Lytle is a seasoned AFL veteran, having played a season with Toronto and two seasons with Milwaukee. He spent the 2002 season as a lineman in Toronto, totaling 11.5 tackles, two pressures, two passes defensed, 1.5 tackles for losses and half a sack. He posted 7.5 tackles, four passes defensed and a sack with Milwaukee in 2001 after tallying 14 tackles, including five for losses, two pass deflections, 1.5 sacks and an interception for the Mustangs in 2000. He played the 1999 season with the Peoria Pirates of the Indoor Football League after finishing his career at Chadron State College.

Philyaw comes to the Arena Football League after spending the past three seasons playing in the NFL and NFL Europe. He was originally a sixth round draft choice in 2000 by the Atlanta Falcons but was released at the end of training camp. He signed to the New Orleans Saints practice squad Aug. 29 before being waived Oct. 10. He then signed to Atlanta's practice squad Oct. 11, where he remained until being signed to the active roster on Dec. 15. He spent the 2001 NFL season on Atlanta's Reserve/Non-Football Injury list after suffering a knee injury playing in NFL Europe. He was waived by the Falcons on July 29 and claimed by the Carolina Panthers. He went to training camp with Carolina, but was released at the end of camp.

Hinton will be looking to make his indoor debut after spending the past three seasons in three different leagues. After finishing his Southeast Missouri State career, he went to training camp with the Kansas City Chiefs but was released before the season began. He then went to camp with the Orlando Rage of the XFL, but failed to make their final roster. He then signed with the Saskatchewan RoughRiders of the CFL, where he spent the 2001 season and 2002 preseason.

The Desperados kick off the 2003 season on Feb. 2 by hosting the New York Dragons. NBC Sports – in their first season associated with the AFL – will televise the game, as well as up to 70 other AFL games throughout the season. The 2003 AFL season will consist of 16 regular season games – eight home games and eight road games – instead of 14 games as in the past. Desperados season ticket packages start at $40 and can be ordered by calling 972-785-4900 or by visiting the Dallas Desperados website at www.dallasdesperados.com.
