Forest City Owls News Release

Forest City, NC- Forest City's exhibition game against Team USA was cancelled with one out in the top of the 5th inning due to weather on Sunday evening. As Kyle Farmer was batting, a lightning bolt struck in the distance, immediately putting the game into a delay. Shortly thereafter, heavy rains and wind struck McNair Field, forcing officials to cancel the game. Because five innings were not complete, the game is not official.

Kris Bryant hit a two-run homer off Ryan Tezak in the 5th inning to put Team USA up 6-1. Gunnar Heidt homered on the first pitch he saw from Trevor Williams in the 1st inning for the Owls' lone run of the game. Team USA jumped out to a 4-1 edge through the first two innings, racking up six hits off Forest City starter Drake Thomason. The quick start was aided by three Owls' errors, leading to a pair of unearned runs.

Forest City gets back to CPL action tomorrow when the Owls host the Martinsville Mustangs at 7:30 PM. After the game, the Owls will light up the town with a July 4th fireworks extravaganza. Call 828-245-0000 to order tickets or stop by the ticket booth at McNair Field.
