Port Huron Prowlers News Release

Port Huron, MI - After an offensive outburst from the Prowlers last night, they would look to carry over the momentum from a 6-1 victory over the Thunderbirds. With the win last night, the Prowlers could jump Carolina in the standings making tonight another crucial game for both sides. The starters in net tonight were Cory Simons for the Prowlers and Evan Morrison for the Thunderbirds.

These teams can't play boring hockey as this period continued off their strong form from last night with an early power-play goal for Alex Johnson, his fifth of the season. Carolina was able to turn the tides of this game for a short period as they were able to score two consecutive goals, with the first of them coming from George Holt after he was able to gather a loose puck and rip it past Simons. A little over two minutes later, the Thunderbirds were able to find the back of the net for the second time this period coming off the stick of Tommy Cardinal. With just under two minutes remaining in the period, Carolina defensemen Cody Oakes committed a cross-checking penalty to the head of Cade Lambdin, which would lead to a five-minute major and a game misconduct. The Prowlers were able to capitalize on the Major penalty when Dalton Jay was able to bury one past Morrison for his 7th goal of the season and ending the period all tied at two.

The second period was even more intense than the first, with the Prowlers getting an early goal when Zachary Fresura was able to display great patience and fire one past Morrison. Things would take a complete 180 from there as Carolina would score the following four goals of the period, with three of them coming from Gus Ford, who had a natural hat trick in this period. In the ladder stages of the period, Matt Graham was given a game misconduct for boarding off a massive hit behind the net. At the end of two, the score was 6-3.

The third period continued the fast pace of this game, with the Prowlers come back falling just short. Larri Vartianen scored two power-play goals in this period to bring the Prowlers within one, but they were unable to find that last goal in the game's dying embers.

The Prowlers and Thunderbirds will be back at it In Carolina tomorrow night with a 630 puck drop.
