
Force Wins Third Straight

SAN DIEGO, CALIF. -- The Cleveland Force traveled to the West Coast for the second time this season and defeated the San Diego Sockers, 16-12, today in a School Day Game at the San Diego Sports Arena.
With the victory, Cleveland won its third straight game and improved to 7-4 overall and 4-1 versus Western Conference opponents. With the loss, the Sockers fell to 6-9 overall as well as 0-3 in the season series.
The Force opened the scoring (2-0) when defender Kiley Couch scored the two-point goal on a one on four attack off the pass from Lee Edgerton at the 3:07 mark of the first quarter. San Diego tied the game (2-2) when Aaron Susi scored the unassisted two-point goal at 9:53. The Sockers took their first lead (2-4) when Carlos "Chile" Farias scored the two-point goal off the feed from Mariano Bollella at the 12:13 mark. Cleveland tied the game for the second time in the opening period (4-4) when Chris Stathopoulos scored the two-point goal off the assist from Joe Mattacchione at 12:25.
The Force regained the lead (7-4) when defender Joe Mattacchione scored his first three-point goal of the season from 90 feet away over San Diego goalkeeper D.J. Horvath to open up the second stanza with just 22 second off the clock. Cleveland added to its lead (9-4) when Giuliano Oliviero scored the two-point goal off the cross from Steve Butcher at 4:25. The Sockers cut into the lead (9-6) when Farias scored his second goal of the game. San Diego got to within in one point (9-8) when Matthew Stewart scored the two-point goal off the pass from Leo Nava at the 10:28 mark.
The two teams battled to a scoreless third quarter.
The Force added to its lead and opened the final quarter (11-8) when John Ball scored the two-point goal off the cross from Kiley Couch at the 4:07 mark. San Diego cut the lead to one point again (11-10) when Mariano Bollella scored the two-point goal off the rebound shot off Gaston Pernia that deflected off Couch at 4:55. The Sockers regained the lead (11-12) when Alejandro Cardenas scored the two-point goal from the assist of Farias at 5:54. Cleveland once again took the lead (13-12) when Stathopoulos scored his second goal of the game as well as the game-winning goal off the second assists of the game for Edgerton. The Force added to its lead (16-12) when Eric Kvello scored his third three-point goal of the season and his second empty net goal in the last two games at the 14:02 mark.
Cleveland will next travel to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania to play the Harrisburg Heat in a MISL Eastern Conference game on Saturday, December 7th at the Farm Show Arena.
