Force Wins First Road Game

Cleveland Force News Release


SAN DIEGO, CALIF. -- The Cleveland Force traveled to San Diego, California and defeated the San Diego Sockers, 15-4, tonight in a Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) game at the San Diego Sports Arena. This was the first trip to San Diego for the Force in 14 years but the first time a Cleveland team has been here since 1992.

With the win, Cleveland won its second straight game as well as its first road game and now has a record of 3-2 overall. With the loss the Sockers fell to 2-4 overall.

The Force opened the scoring (2-0) when defender Zach Scott recorded his first points of the season as he scored his first career MISL and first indoor soccer goal off the cross from John Ball at the 3:18 mark of the first quarter. Cleveland added to its lead (4-0) when Ball found the back of the net off the assists from Giuliano Oliviero at 6:00 minutes. The Force continued the offensive attack (6-0) when Myles Stoddard stole the ball and went the length of the field to score his first career MISL goal at the 9:15 mark of the first period.

Cleveland opened the second quarter scoring (8-0) when San Diego goalkeeper DJ Horvath tried to clear the ball but Maher blocked the pass and ended up heading the ball into the back of the net at the 1:24 mark. The Sockers ended an 8-0 run by the Force (8-2) when Carlos Farias netted the two-point penalty kick goal on the Steve Butcher two-minute penalty at 7:15. Cleveland increased its lead (10-2) when Hector Marinaro scored the two-point goal off the second assist of the game from Oliviero at the 13:51 mark. The goal marked the 47th straight game the Marinaro has scored a point.

The two teams played a scoreless third quarter.

San Diego opened the final quarter scoring (10-4) when Matt Johnson found the back of the net off the pass from Alejandro Cardenas at the 3:31 mark. The Force added to their lead (12-4) when John Ball beat Robbie Aristodemo, who was playing sixth attacker, and took the shot missed it and followed the shot for the two-point goal. Cleveland increased its lead (15-4) when Ball once again beat Aristodemo to score his first three-point goal of the season as it was the second straight goal Cleveland scored against the sixth attacker. The goal by Ball marked the first hat trick of the season for the Force.

The Tops Sensational Player of the Game went to Jim Larkin as he recorded his third win of the season and had a season-high 20 saves.

Cleveland will next travel to Milwaukee, Wisconsin to face the Milwaukee Wave on Sunday, November 3rd at the Bradley Center.
