CLEVELAND, OHIO - The Cleveland Force will look to get back on the winning track this weekend with another back-to-back weekend when the team first travels to Baltimore, Maryland to take on the two-time defending Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) Champion Baltimore Blast on Friday, April 1 at the 1st Mariner Arena. The Force will then return home to host the first place Milwaukee Wave on Saturday, April 2nd at the Wolstein Convocation Center.
The games can be heard live on WHK 1420 AM or WHKW 1440 AM in Warren/Youngstown or live worldwide on the Internet at www.thesportsking.com. Friday's game will kick-off at 7:35 pm while Saturday's is set to start at 7:05 pm. The pre-game show hosted by Ed "Doc" Daugherty is schedule to being at 7:05 and 6:35 respectively
Cleveland comes into the weekend with a record 16-14 overall, 6-8 on the road and 10-6 at home. The Force snapped their season-high five game-winning streak last Saturday night when they fell to the Philadelphia KiXX by a final score of 8-2 at the Wachovia Spectrum. Cleveland currently sits in the fourth and final playoff spot a half game behind the St. Louis Steamers for third, 1.5 games behind the KIXX for second and 3.5 games behind the Wave for first. The Force leads the expansion Chicago Storm in fifth place by 1.5 games.
Baltimore enters the weekend with a record of 13-18 overall, 11-6 at home and 5-11 on the road. The Blast fell to the Storm by a final score of 5-3 last Saturday at 1st Mariner Arena. Baltimore sits in sixth place in the MISL Standings trailing Chicago by two games and Cleveland by 3.5 games. The Blast leads the seventh place Kansas City Comets by one game.
Milwaukee, who plays on Thursday night, sits atop the MISL with a record of 20-11 overall, 13-4 at home and 7-7 on the road. The Wave last played on March 20 at U.S. Cellular Arena and defeated the St. Louis by a final score of 6-4.
The game between Cleveland and Baltimore will mark the sixth of eight meetings this season between the two squads as well as the third of four meetings at 1st Mariner Arena. The contest will mark the 135th meeting between the two squads with the Blast holding a 69-65 advantage. The Force won the last meeting by a final score of 7-5 on March 11 at the Wolstein Center. Baltimore leads the season series 3-2.
In the series with the Blast, the Force is led by forward and team captain John Ball with nine points on five goals and four assists. Defender Genoni Martinez is second in the series with four goals and two assists for six points in just two games. Forwards Chris Dore and Antonio Sutton are tied for third with four points apiece.
The Blast is paced by forward David Bascome with 10 points on six goals and four assists in all five games. Forward Giuliano Celenza is second with eight points in the series with seven goals and one assist. Midfielders P.J. Wakefield and Lee Tschantret are tied for third with six points.
The contest between Cleveland and Milwaukee will mark the third of five meetings this season between the two squads, including the first game at the Wolstein Center and the first of three April meetings. The Force won the last meeting to even the season series at 1-1 with a 4-3 overtime victory on January 22 at U.S. Cellular Arena. The Wave won the first meeting back on November 13th by a final score of 6-5 in overtime.
In the series with Milwaukee, Cleveland is led midfielder Robbie Aristodemo with three points on three goals, including the game winner on January 22 and a two goal performance in the first game. Forward Antonio Sutton is second with two points on a goal and an assist.
The Wave are led by the MISL leading scorer forward Greg Howes in the season series with four points on two goals and two assists. Midfielder Marcelo Fontana is second with three points all coming on goals, including the game-winner in overtime in the first meeting.
