
Force take steam out of St. Louis

CLEVELAND, OHIO - The Cleveland Force played host and defeated the Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) leading St. Louis Steamers by a final score of 6-4 at the Convocation Center at Cleveland State University.
With the win, the Force moved to within three games of the top spot in the MISL and into a three-way tie for fourth place tie with the Baltimore Blast and Kansas City Comets. Cleveland improved to 6-7 overall, 2-1 in the season series and 4-4 at home. With the loss, the Steamers to 11-6 overall, and 4-3 on the road.
St. Louis opened the scoring (0-1) when forward Shaun David took the rebound shot from Daryl Doran high out of the air and score the first tally of the game at 8:32.
The Force tied the game back up and opened the second quarter scoring (1-1) when defender Rene Rivas came off the bench and forward Chris Dore found Rivas all alone and Rene hit a low liner into the far post at 2:16. Cleveland took its first lead (2-1) after a flurry of shots by defender Wendell Regis just missed the mark and went right to midfielder Robbie Aristodemo who passed it to forward Chris Handsor on the back post for the easy tap in score at 4:38. The assist marked the first for Aristodemo as a member of the Force. Cleveland added to its lead (3-1) when midfielder Gary DePalma stole the ball and made a pretty move that got the last Steamers defender to commit and he found forward Sipho Sibiya at the back post for the goal at 5:46. St. Louis cut the lead to one goal (3-2) when Aaron Susi nailed a shot from beyond the yellow line that deflected off Sibiya into the net at 13:42. The Steamers tied the game for the second time (3-3) when Force goalkeeper Jim Larkin misplayed the ball and it went right to David who found a streaking Jeff DiMaria who put the ball into the back of the net at 14:25.
St. Louis regained the lead and regained the lead (3-4) when former University of Akron standout Mike Apple scored the goal on a diving header off the boards from David at 14:20 of the third quarter.
Cleveland tied the game for the third time (4-4) when Dore stole the ball at midfield and took the ball forward and hit a streaking Neto who slide and knocked the ball into the goal at 3:51 of the fourth quarter. The Force regained the lead (5-4) when Neto put a pretty fake on a Steamer defender and buried the go ahead goal off the cross from midfielder Kyt Selaidopoulos at 9:52. Cleveland sealed the game (6-4) when John Ball scored the empty net goal against the sixth attacker off the long outlet pass from Antonio Sutton at 14:21.
