Force sweeps MISL weekly honors

CLEVELAND, OHIO- Cleveland Force forward and team captain John Ball, goalkeeper Jim Larkin and defender Genoni Martinez all were selected as the Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) Players of the Week for their respective positions for the seven-day period ending March 20. This marked the first time this season that Cleveland has swept all three Player of the Week categories. The three weekly honors now gives the Force nine Player of the Week selections.

Ball earns his second consecutive honor of the season after recording seven points in two games last weekend. John tallied a goal and added two assists in a 5-4 victory over the Chicago Storm on Saturday and then followed that up with a two-goal and two-assist performance in a 7-5 victory over the Kansas City Comets on Sunday. The Force team captain is currently second in the Spalding Scoring Champion race with 48 points. He has accounted for 12 goals and four assists for 16 points during Cleveland's season-high five game winning streak. Ball also tallied his 450th career point on his first of three points during Saturday's contest and has already set a career-high in assists with his 23 thus far.

Larkin garners his fourth Goalkeeper of the Week honor after posting two victories last weekend. The Toronto native stopped 34 of 43 shots in the two games for a save percentage of .790. Larkin leads the MISL in saves with 385 and is currently second in save percentage at .743 and fourth in the league with a 5.20 goals against average.

Martinez, the two-time defending MISL Defensive Player of the Year, takes home his second consecutive and third Defensive Player of the Week honor of the season. The native of Mexico City tallied three assists and five blocks while anchoring a solid defensive effort for the Force in two victories last weekend. Genoni tallied two assists and a game-high tying three blocks versus the Storm and followed up with one assist and two blocks against the Comets. In 10 games since joining the Force, Martinez has accumulated eight goals and 14 assists for 22 points while blocking 18 shots. During the five game winning streak, Genoni has notched five goals, seven assists and 12 blocks.

John, Jim and Genoni join defender Matt Johnson as the other Force player honored by the MISL this season. Johnson garnered the Defensive Player of the Week on February 7.

The Force will next travel to the City of Brotherly Love to take on to the second place Philadelphia KiXX on Saturday, March 26.
