KANSAS CITY, MO. - The Cleveland Force used a three goal second half performance to defeat the Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) Kansas City Comets by a final score of 4-3 at the Kemper Arena. The contest was the first Thursday night game of the season for the Force and marked the first of three games in four nights for Cleveland.
With the victory, the Force recorded their third straight victory over Kansas City and improved to 18-15 overall, 8-8 on the road, 4-2 versus the Comets this season and 40-41 all-time versus Kansas City teams. With the loss, the Comets snapped their two game-winning streak and fell to 14-20 overall and 8-9 at home.
Kansas City opened the scoring (0-1) when forward Dino Delevski made a run down the middle of the field and forward Jamar Beasley found the wide open Delevski who tapped in the pass for the first score of the game at 8:56 of the first quarter.
The Comets added to their lead (0-2) as Delevski hit a rocket shot just inside the yellow line for his second goal of the game off the cross from defender Casey Barton at 3:31 of the second quarter. Cleveland cut the lead in half (1- 2) when forward Chris Handsor scored the power play goal on the header as the ball bounced around the goal area and right to Handsor who knocked it in with just nine seconds left in the man advantage off the assist from forward Aaron Susi at 14:43.
The Force tied the game (2-2) when forward Adauto Neto stole the ball and went down the field and scored the game tying score at 2:04 of the third quarter. Cleveland took its first lead of the game (3-2) when midfielder Gary DePalma stole the ball right off the foot of Kansas City goalkeeper Chris Damico's foot and tapped in the go ahead goal at 3:03. The Comets evened the scored (3-3) when midfielder Nino Marcantonio recorded his first goal with Kansas City on the power play off the second assist of the game for Beasley at 10:41.
The Force regained the lead (4-3) when Susi took the long pass from defender Neil Gilbert and buried the shot for the second lead of the game at 2:13 of the fourth quarter. The assist marked the first assist and point in a Cleveland uniform for Gilbert.
Cleveland will return home for the second game of back-to-back contests to take on the two-time defending MISL Champion Baltimore Blast on Friday, April 8 at the Wolstein Center.
