
Force Socks San Diego In Overtime For Second Straight Win

SAN DIEGO, CALIF. - The Cleveland Force traveled to San Diego, California and defeated the Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) Western Conference San Diego Sockers 3-2 in overtime tonight at the San Diego Sports Arena.
With the victory, the Force improves to 2-0 on the season and it also marks the first time since the 1996-97 season that the team has started off the season with a 2-0 record. With the loss, San Diego fell to 0-3 on the season and dropped its sixth straight game dating back to last season.
Cleveland opened the scoring (1-0) when Hector Marinaro ran an overlap and took the pass from Jim Larkin and put it in the back of the net just under the crossbar at nine minutes of the first quarter. The goal was the first of the season for Marinaro and he has now scored at least a point in 59 straight games.
The Force added to their lead (2-0) when Ato Leone scored the goal off the first career MISL assist for Cleveland State University standout Adam Campellone at 1:41 of the second period. The Sockers cut into the lead (2-1) when Sean Bowers scored an unassisted power play goal at 5:05.
San Diego tied the game (2-2) and opened the second half scoring when Mauricio Alegre scored the power play goal off the assist from Mark Ughy at 6:46 of the third quarter.
The two teams did not find the back of the net in the fourth quarter. Cleveland ended regulation without scoring a goal in over 43 minutes while the Sockers went scoreless for over 23 minutes.
The Force won the game in overtime (3-2) when Adauto Neto scored his first game-winner of the season off the assist from Lee Edgerton.
Cleveland will next travel to Milwaukee, Wisconsin to take on the MISL Central Conference Milwaukee Wave at the U.S. Cellular Arena on Friday, October 31. The game is scheduled to begin at 8:05 p.m. and can be heard live on Sports Talk 850 WKNR.
