
Force Signs Four-Year Lease with Convocation Center

CLEVELAND, OHIO- The Cleveland Force has signed a four-year lease with the Convocation Center at CSU making it their home arena through the 2005-06 season. The $55 million arena opened to the public November 1, 1991 with a seating a capacity of 13,610.
"We are please that we were able to reach an agreement with Cleveland State University and SMG to continue to play our home games at this facility. The commitment of SMG and the University to improve the city's awareness of this great facility, the quality of the events hosted and the building itself are important in the on-going development of our organization in Cleveland," commented Paul Garofolo, Cleveland Force President and General Manager.
The Force will begin the 24th season of indoor soccer in Cleveland and the 11th season at the Convo when home play begins on October 12th against the Baltimore Blast. The regular season kicks off the previous week in Baltimore, Maryland as the Force take on the Blast on Saturday, October 5th at 7:05 p.m.
"The SMG managed Convocation Center at Cleveland State University is thrilled to have just signed a four-year contract with the Cleveland Force," stated Joe Mazur, SMG General Manager. "Our new contract reinforces the commitment that SMG and the Convocation Center have in bringing great family entertainment and sports to the Cleveland market. We are also pleased to be continuing our long and successful partnership that we've had with the Cleveland Crunch as the team builds to a new season and an old familiar name, the Cleveland Force. We're looking forward to a great season of MISL professional indoor soccer," Mazur added.
In addition to Force games, the Convo is host to Cleveland State University Athletic events as well as musical greats like Elton John, Pearl Jam, Korn, Incubus, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Sade, Weezer, Blink 182, Tool and Luther Vandross. The Convocation Center at CSU has also been the site for the Mayor Jane Campbell Inaugural Ball, Rocket Power Live, ESPN Motocross, NCAA Division I Volleyball and Wrestling Championships as well as the NCAA Division I Midwest Basketball Regional Tournament.
