Force set for Thursday night clash

CLEVELAND, OHIO - The Cleveland Force will play is second mid-week game of the season and first since playing on a Wednesday night back in November when the team travels to the Show Me State to take on the Kansas City Comets on Thursday, April 7 at the Kemper Arena.

The game can be heard live on WHK 1420 AM or WHKW 1440 AM in Warren/Youngstown or live worldwide on the Internet at www.thesportsking.com. The game is scheduled to begin at 8:05 p.m. with the pre-game show hosted by Ed Daugherty slated to start at 7:35 p.m.

Cleveland enters the showdown with a record of 17-15 overall, 10-7 at home, 7-8 on the road and 3-2 versus the Comets this season. The Force split a pair of games last weekend as they posted a decisive 7-3 victory over the two-time defending MISL Champion Baltimore Blast on Friday night at 1st Mariner Arena but then fell to the first place Milwaukee Wave by a final score of 5-2 on Saturday night at the Wolstein Center. Cleveland currently sits in fourth place in the MISL Standings trailing the third place St. Louis Steamers by a half game, the second place Philadelphia KiXX by 1.5 games and the Wave by 3.5 games. The Force leads the fifth place expansion Chicago Storm by 3.5 games for the final playoff spot.

Kansas City comes into the game on a two-game winning streak and with a record of 14-19 overall, 8-8 at home and 6-11 on the road. The Comets posted victories over Milwaukee last Thursday by a final score of 6-3 at home and followed that up with a thrilling 6-5 overtime victory over Chicago on Saturday night at Kemper Arena. Kansas City is currently tied for sixth place along with the Blast trailing the Storm by one game and the Force by 3.5 games for the final playoff spot.

The game between Cleveland and the Comets will mark the final of six regular season meetings this season between the two squads. The Force leads the season series 3-2 after recording victories in the last two meetings, including the last by a final score of 7-5 on March 20 at the Wolstein Center.

In the series, Cleveland is led by forward and team captain John Ball with seven points on two goals and five assists. The three way tie for second place with six points is held by midfielder Gary DePalma with four goals and two assists, forward Chris Handsor with five goals and one assist, and defender Rene Rivas with two goals and four assists in four games. Defender Genoni Martinez is in third place with five points from one goal and four assists in just three games.

The Comets are paced by midfielder Armando Valdivia with five points on two goals and three assists. The five way tie for second place with four points apiece includes defender Vlatko Andonovski, midfielder Justin Evans, and forwards James Koehler, Dino Delevski, and Jamar Beasley.
