Force falls to Storm in Windy City

CHICAGO, ILLINOIS - The Cleveland Force traveled to the Windy City tonight and was defeated by the Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) Central Division and expansion Chicago Storm by a final score of 6-5 at the University of Illinois- Chicago Pavilion.

With the loss, the Force fell to 0-2 overall, 0-1 versus MISL Central Division opponents, 0-1 in the season series and 0-1 on the road. With the victory, the Storm improved to 2-1 overall and 1-0 versus Eastern Division opponents and 1-1 at home.

Chicago opened the scoring (0-1) when Byron Alvarez found the back of the net off the pass from Costea Decu at 10:02 of the first quarter.

The Storm opened the second quarter scoring (0-2) when Chris Carrieri scored the goal off the assist from Lazo Alavanja at 14:00.

Cleveland cut into the lead and opened the second half scoring (1-2) when Antonio Sutton found the back of the net off the pass from John Ball just 17 seconds into the thrid quarter. Chicago responded (1-3) when Mattew Stewart scored the goal off the pass from Alvarez at 7:36. The Force once again cut the lead to one (2-3) when Robbie Aristodemo found the back of the net off the assist from Rene Rivas at 11:15. The goal was the first for Aristodemo as a Cleveland player while the assist marked the first assist for Rivas as a Force player. Cleveland tied the game (3-3) when the Chris Handsor scored the the goal that went of a Storm defender whiel Fred DeGand was credited with the assist at 14:27.

Chicago regained the lead (3-4) and opened the final period scoring when Jonah Long scored the restart goal off the assist from Sandre Naumoski at 1:21 of the fourth quarter. The Storm added to their lead (3-5) when Decu scored the power play goal off the second assist of the game Alavanja at 4:47. The Force cut into the lead (4-5) when Rivas scored the unassited goal at 5:03. The goal marked the first goal for Rene as a Cleveland defender. The Force tied the game for the second time (5-5) when Handsor scored his second goal of the game on the power play off the second assist of the game for Rivas at 12:38. Chicago regained the lead (5-6) when Carrieri scored his second goal of the game on the power play off the second assist of the game for Decu at 14:04.

Cleveland will play host to the Chicago Storm on Saturday, November 6 at the Convocation Center at Cleveland State University.
