Force Falls To Monterrey In Overtime, 5-4

MONTERREY, MEXICO - The Cleveland Force traveled to Monterrey, Mexico for the first time in team history and was defeated by the Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) Western Division Monterrey Fury tonight by a final score of 5-4 in overtime at Monterrey Arena.

With the loss, the Force dropped their record to 4-7 overall, 3-3 versus MISL Western Division opponents, 0-2 in the season series and 1-1 in overtime games. With the win, Monterrey improved its record to 4-7 overall, 2-2 versus MISL Eastern Division opponents and 2-1 at home.

The Fury opened the scoring (0-1) when defender Genoni Martinez scored the goal from the yellow line off the assist from Armando Valdivia just 35 seconds into the first quarter. Cleveland tied the game (1-1) when John Ball found the back of the net off the pass from Lee Edgerton at 5:52.

Monterrey regained the lead (1-2) when Marco "Chikis" Lopez scored the goal off the cross from Martinez at 3:56 of the second quarter. The Force tied the game for the second time (2-2) when forward Myles Stoddard found the back of the net off the first career MISL assist and point for forward Joel Bailey at 5:48. Cleveland took its first lead of the game (3-2) when Vermilion native Chris Dore recorded the restart goal off the cross from Ball at 10:17. The Force added to their lead (4-2) when Stoddard scored the restart and power play goal on the second assist of the game for Ball at 13:48.

The Fury snapped a 3-0 run by Cleveland and opened the second half scoring (4-3) when Ramon Fernandez found the back of the net off a pass from Lopez at 6:14 of the third quarter.

Monterrey tied the game for the third time (4-4) when Octavio Perez scored the goal off the pass from Brad Flanagan at 5:50 of the fourth quarter.

The Fury won the game in overtime (4-5) when Fernandez blocked a pass by Force goalkeeper Otto Orf at the yellow line and the ball rolled into the empty net for the goal at 5:34 of the extra session.

Cleveland will not play again until after the Christmas Holiday when the team will return home to the Convocation Center at Cleveland State University to host the MISL Eastern Division Philadelphia KiXX on Saturday, December 27.
