KANSAS CITY, MO. â The Cleveland Force traveled to Kansas City, Missouri and was defeated by the Kansas City Comets, 26-10, tonight in a Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) game at the Kemper Arena. The Force, who defeated the Harrisburg Heat 13-12 last night at home, won its first back-to-back series of the season.
With the loss, Cleveland fell to 10-9 overall, 6-4 versus Western Conference opponents and 4-7 on the road. With the victory, Kansas City improved to 11-9 overall, 2-6 at home and 2-1 in the season series.
Kansas City opened the scoring (0-2) when Nino DaSilva scored a two-point goal off the pass from Wes Wade at 2:09 of the first period. The Comets scored again (0-4) when Nicola Corneli scored a two-point goal off the assist from goalkeeper Paolo Ceccarelli at 2:36. Kansas City added to its lead (0-6) when DaSilva scored his second goal of the period off the pass from Dino Delevski at 3:27. The Comets kept the scoring attack going (0-8) when Corneli scored his second goal of the first stanza off the pass from Jake Dancy at 6:42. Kansas City found the back of the net again (0-10) when Alex Zotinca scored a two-point goal off the pass from Jeff Davis at 8:43. The Force got on the board and snapped a 10-0 run by the Comets (2-10) when Giuliano Oliviero scored a two-point goal off a pass from Nevio Pizzolitto at 12:42.
Cleveland cut into the lead (4-10) when Myles Stoddard scored a two-point goal off the pass from Hector Marinaro at 7:20 of the second quarter. The assist marked the 57 straight game with at least a point for Marinaro. Kansas City snapped a 4-0 run by the Force (4-12) when Miodrag Djerisilo scored a two-point goal off the pass from Zotinca at 11:30. The Comets added to their lead (4-14) when Delevski scored a power play and shoot out goal at 12:08. Kansas City closed out the first half scoring (4-16) when Djerisilo scored his second goal of the game off the second assist of the game for Zotinca at 13:23.
Cleveland opened the second half scoring (6-16) when Lee Edgerton found the back of the net off a pass from Oliviero at 4:30 of the third quarter. The Comets added to its lead (6-19) when Delevski scored a three-point goal off the pass from Chad James at 13:00. The Force cut into the lead (8-19) when Marinaro scored his 1,201-career goal of the pass from Chris Stathopoulos at 13:33.
Cleveland opened the fourth quarter scoring (10-19) when Stoddard scored his second goal of the game and fourth in the last two nights of f the pass from Edgerton. Kansas City scored again (10-22) when DaSilva found the back of the net off a cross from Delevski at 2:39. The Comets kept the offense going (10-24) when Goran Hunjak scored a two-point goal off the feed from Nate Houser at 6:25. Kansas City closed out the scoring (10-26) when Delevski capped off a strong night with a two-point goal off the second assist of the game for James at 7:38.
