CLEVELAND, OHIO â The Cleveland Force played host to the defending MISL Champion Philadelphia KiXX and defeated the Heat, 20-10, tonight in a Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) Eastern Conference game at the Convocation Center at Cleveland State University.
With the win, Cleveland snapped a two-game losing streak and improved to 11-10 overall and 7-2 at home. With the loss, Philadelphia snaps a 10-game winning streak and fell to 17-4 overall and 2-2 in the season series.
The Force opened the scoring (2-0) when Lee Edgerton scored a two-point goal off the assist from Kiley Couch at 1:29 of the first quarter. Cleveland added to its lead (4-0) when Edgerton scored his second goal of the quarter off the pass from Giuliano Oliviero at 5:10.
The KiXX cut into the lead (4-2) when Goran Vasic scored a two-point goal off the cross from Shawn Boney at 3:23 of the second quarter. The Force added to its lead (7-2) when Justin Evans scored a three-point goal off the assist from goalkeeper Jim Larkin at 7:51. Philadelphia cut into the lead (7-4) when Kevin Sloan scored a two-point goal off the rebound shot of Joel Shanker at 14:00.
The KiXX cut the lead to one point (7-6) when Sloan scored his second goal of the game off the pass from Don D'Ambra at 3:42 of the third quarter. Cleveland increased its lead (9-6) when Chris Stathopoulos scored a two-point goal off the pass from Nevio Pizzolitto at 9:50. The Force added to the lead (11-6) when Edgerton scored a two-point power play goal from the pass of Andrew Gregor at 11:42. With the goal, Edgerton recorded 200th career point as well as his first hat trick of the season. Cleveland kept up the scoring attack (13-6) when Edgerton scored his fourth goal of the game off the second assist of the game for Oliviero at 12:50. The Force jumped out to their largest lead of the game (15-6) when Stathopoulos scored his second goal of the game off the pass from Anthony Maher at 13:38.
Philadelphia snapped an 8-0 run by Cleveland (15-8) when Joel Shanker scored a two-point power play goal off the pass from Pat Morris at 3:42 of the final period. The KiXX cut into the lead (15-10) when Sloan scored a two-point power play goal off the pass from Vasic at 8:14. The Force scored a two-point goal (17-10) when Craig Kench found the back of the net off the pass from Stathopoulos at 9:47. Cleveland added to its lead (20-10) when Kiley Couch scored a three-point against the sixth attacker off the pass from Stathopoulos.
Cleveland will next travel to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania to take on the Harrisburg Heat in a MISL Eastern Conference game at the Farm Show Arena.
